Getting There

How to get the southern caribbean coast of Costa Rica

We’re located near the southern caribbean coast of Costa Rica near the villages Puerto Viejo de Talamance and Cahuita – have a look at the maps below to find out where we are located. We’ll provide transport from Puerto Viejo and Cahuita on all our tours – if you wanna drive yourself, please feel free – we’ll gonna show you the way! Please note, that you’ll definitely need a good 4×4 as the gravel road to the basecamp can be quite muddy when it rains!

All planes arrive in the capital of Costa Rica – San Jose. From there you have several options:

  • Public bus: There’s daily public buses from San Jose – it’s currently 5500 colones (around 10 $) and takes 4-5 hours. The bus departs from terminal Atlantico Norte (locally known as “San Carlos”) at AM 6 & 10 / PM 12, 2 & 4. The ride is really scenic!
  • Shuttle bus: You can book a private or semi-private (around 50 $ per person) shuttle with the excellent local operator Gecko Trail
  • Car: If you have a car, you can drive yourself via Guapiles, Siquirres and Limon. You can rent the car with the great car rental operator Wild Rider in San Jose – they also have good 4x4s!
  • Airplane: Nature Air operates daily flights from San Jose to Limon – the price is between 55 and 85 $ one way. From there you can take the bus or get a cab (around 50 $).
